Jeffrey T. Smith
Welcome

Welcome to The Human Wilderness site, home to the music and other entertainments by Jeffrey T. Smith aka Humphrey Piedmont.  I grew up in Huntington, West Virginia and moved to the Northern Virginia area in 1978. I have been influenced by many local musicians as well as what I've heard on records etc.  I consider my local mentors as important to my musical inspiration and development as anyone I ever heard on records. Plus they are pals.
In this site you can listen to and buy recordings. I am hoping that this will be an area where we can connect, have some fun and exchange ideas.  I will be offering up music from Humphrey Piedmont as well. I will also post dates for appearances, pictures, observations and introduce you to some friends.
Thanks for stopping by.

    • Checking in on your work. Sounds good brother man. Great line: I need to hear the music before I can dance. Keep on. keep on. the music is there. Stay in the stream.

    • When is the big tour coming to New England?!

    • Tunes sound great,,,sending to Brulatour Doug Snodgrass

    • Jeff, I caught your concert at the Art Space in Falls Church. It was exceptional! Your soul and sound are superb. It is the best concert I've heard in a while!!!

You tell a story with words, facial expression, with soul and sound!

I bought your human wilderness cd. I keep listening to The YOU cut with the top down in my car!

Hey y'all, here is an ALERT - YOU is a hit! Listen to it and spread the word

    • Jeff, It was a great show! Actually it was a WOW show. YIt is a great venue and new to me. Tim and I have also talked about doing a house concert sometime....once we get settled. Keep me on the list, please! It was really fun. We saw Mike and Sue last night (Jimmy Dale Gilmore/Billy Joe Shaver at Birchmere) and were talking about how great your songs were. First someone said they loved "Over in the Fields" then someone said they realy liked "Me and My daddy" then came "Hideaway" and pretty soon we'd run down your set list!

Human Wilderness is one of my fav albums. It is sights and sound of Lost America and I love introducing it to others---all the songs are great, but particularly poingnent personally to me are one like Me and My Daddy, Over in the Fields (yep, I saw that field when I was 10) Hideway (we all danced there) and then every song on that album.

      Playing anywhere soon? ..
